Longarm Quilting Service
July 1st starts our new Longarm Quilting Service rate of $.035 per square inch will go into effect which will equate to a discount of about 15% on overall quilting cost. This will be permanent pricing, and it is below industry average for this type service.
When you bring your quilt in, we will discuss backing, batting, help you select thread and a digital quilting pattern so your quilt will come together beautifully for you!
Here are a few things to think about before dropping off your quilt to ensure a great result:
- The backing should be bigger than the top. At least 4" extra on every side of the top for it to be loaded properly. Say you have a quilt that measures 60" x 60". Your backing should be at least 68" x 68" = four extra inches on the top, right side, bottom and left side.
- Buy extra wide fabric to avoid piecing. Do you HATE to piece your backing? Buy a wide back and be done with it. The shop carries a great selection of 108" wide backs that are suitable for most quilt top.
- Press seams open. When you piece your backing together, horizontal seams across the backing are preferable but vertical seams will work, too. Press the backing seam open. This reduces bulk and looks smoother than pressing to the side.
- Give clear direction with your directional fabric. If you have a specific direction that either the top or backing needs to be, make sure you let you let us know so we load and set up the digital pattern appropriately.
- Sometimes a stay stitching around the perimeter is needed. If you have seams that are starting to come out along the sides or bias edges around the perimeter (prone to stretching), stay stitch around the quilt. This step can make a big difference. Stay stitching means you sew a straight seam all the way around the perimeter–in from the edge–with nothing else layered to it. You're just stabilizing it with thread to resist warping, stretching or unraveling.
- Take a close look at your quilt top front and back. Are all the seams joined together? Are there any intersections that are not secured and will pop open? This is important to keep the machine from “catching” on an open seam or exposing batting after the quilting is done. It is very difficult to go back and repair it once the quilting is finished.
We hope both the new pricing and quilt prep suggestions will help you get that quilt to the finish line!
